Even if the Blu-ray specification includes provisions to 7.1 channels, most of Blu-ray is no longer used. Especially in a small room, I have not upgraded to 7.1, but certainly nothing to be lost. Even if you use a blend with only 7.1 full install a 5.1 speaker system, 2 additional channels will automatically be confused with the other two surround Blu-ray, if you say you're in the menu settings that are 5.1. All of the additional 2 channels offer an additional point source for surround effects for both sides and rear view of the listener. You may notice a difference but would be minimal. In the configuration 5.1, the 2 channels are represented primarily as a point source phantom by a balance between the front and rear.
The size of the smallest room certainly affect the investment options for pregnant women, when it rises to 7.1, due to the limited space to work with those.
Blu-ray is quite the pain, even in 5.1!
